Joint Replacement

Nearly one in four people experience joint pain every year, and nearly 750,000 people undergo either total hip or knee replacement surgery annually. At Glendale Adventist Medical Center, our renowned orthopedic specialists develop comprehensive treatment plans for each joint replacement patient.

Our orthopedic surgeons specialize in hip and knee joint replacements. Often, patients come to them needing more than one joint replacement. Although it may sound intimidating, having multiple-joint replacement during one surgery offers significant benefits to many patients.

Anterior Approach For Hip Replacement

The anterior approach for hip replacement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which the surgeon performs the procedure in the front of the hip joint as opposed to a side (lateral) or back (posterior) approach to the hip.

Because the orthopedic surgeon is able to replace the hip without damaging muscle at the pelvis or femur, patients experience great benefits over other approaches, including:

  • Smaller incision
  • Less operative time
  • Minimal risk of dislocation after surgery
  • No restrictions in movement after surgery
  • Faster recovery time

Nearly all patients who need a primary hip replacement, even those needing bilateral hip replacement, are candidates for the anterior approach to hip replacement.
