To help give cancer survivors access to all of the tools that they need to fight and survive cancer, GAMC cancer experts, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers came together to create a unique Cancer Fitness Program. No matter the type of cancer or where you are in your treatment or survivorship, this program has something great for your body.
- Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10AM - 11AM
Learn a variety of exercises utilizing various props, such as weights, balls and bands, to build strength, range of motion, muscle mass and a sense of balance.
- Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11AM - Noon
Experience the pleasure of moving to music. Dancing can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, increases coordination, body awareness and cardio fitness level. Plenty of laughs abound as participants discover all types of dance styles and explore their creativity.
- Mondays & Wednesdays, 1PM - 2PM
In a meditative and nurturing environment, yoga quiets the mind and strengthens the body. Yoga uses breath control, promotes symmetry, proper alignment and overall mental and physical fitness for life. Whether practiced standing up, in a chair or laying down, yoga is for everybody.
The free Cancer Fitness Program is for cancer patients following surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy, helping to:
- Recapture lost strength
- Increase muscle mass
- Enhance joint range of motion
- Improve balance
- Regain inspiration and personal power to take an active role in treatment and recovery
The classes are conveniently located at the Therapy & Wellness Center (about a mile from the GAMC Cancer Center) where there is plenty of free parking, lockers and changing rooms for attendees.
