Diabetes Care

Diabetes is on the rise and contributes to a host of other often life-threatening diseases and conditions such as heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and even amputation. It is critical to diagnose, treat and manage the disease as early as possible.

The Diabetes Care Program draws upon Glendale Adventist Medical Center's expertise in medical treatment and lifestyle changes to give patients the education and support they need to control their diabetes and live a healthy lifestyle.

Diabetes Education

Certified diabetes educators and other staff members assist inpatients and outpatients to enhance their self-management skills regarding diet and exercise, insulin and drug management, checking blood sugar levels and other important aspects of living with diabetes.

We tailor recommendations for each patient according to his or her individual lifestyle, medical history and other personal criteria. In addition, we follow up with patients through our outpatient diabetes care program.

Gestational Diabetes Care
For women who develop diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes), we offer the Sweet Success program to provide diabetes management guidelines that are sensitive to the special needs of pregnant women and their babies.

Diabetes Support Group
Glendale Adventist Medical Center sponsors an ongoing diabetes support and education group for adults with either Type I or Type II diabetes. Participants learn from one another, the certified diabetes educator, and special guest speakers.

Diabetes Screening
Because early detection of diabetes is so important, Glendale Adventist Medical Center conducts periodic diabetes screenings and lectures in the hospital and at locations throughout the community.
