Rapid Diagnosis

Emergency care for heart and vascular patients begins even before the patient arrives at Glendale Adventist. All City of Glendale Fire Department and LA County paramedic units are equipped with a sophisticated 12-lead EKG device. This equipment is far advanced beyond traditional paramedic EKGs, allowing physicians in Glendale Adventist's Emergency Department to actually diagnose a heart attack while the patient is en route to the hospital.

The addition of a new dedicated elevator in the hospital's expanded Emergency Department to the operating rooms and catheterization labs has further enhanced the speed that care is delivered at Glendale Adventist.

With earlier diagnosis, Emergency Department physicians and staff are able to prepare a treatment plan for the patient that begins the moment he or she arrives. This rapid diagnosis can save lives and minimize damage to the heart muscle.

STEMI Receiving Center

In January 2007, GAMC became the first hospital in the area to pass a rigorous set of standards to be designated a STEMI (heart attack) receiving center (SRC) by Los Angeles County Emergency Services. Because GAMC is recognized in the medical community as an SRC, when emergency medical personnel confirm a heart attack/STEMI diagnosis, they will bypass other non-SRC hospitals and bring a patient directly to the GAMC emergency department for treatment.
