GAMC has a new, attractive, well-equipped Maternity Center, where approximately 200 babies are born every month. Each patient room is beautifully decorated and designed to provide comfortable, convenient maternal and infant care, including admitting, delivery, newborn care and discharge.
Among a wide range of services, the Maternity Center offers 24-hour anesthesia coverage, which allows patients to have epidural anesthesia at any time. In addition, the Center has a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where outstanding neonatologists and highly skilled nurses provide professional and compassionate care for our patients and their families.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Glendale Adventist's Maternity Center features one of the highest functioning Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Units in our region, offering all the advanced services of a Level III unit, with the exception of neonatal surgery and ECMO.
Our team of three outstanding neonatologists and highly skilled nurses are qualified to handle a wide range of neonatal cases, including micro-preemies, high-frequency ventilator patients and many others. In all we do, our focus is on professional and compassionate care for our patients and their families.
The services offered by Glendale Adventist's Maternity Center go beyond those of many other hospital programs. Among the premiere enhancements to our line-up of women's services is an outstanding perinatology program that provides both inpatient and outpatient medical care for women with high-risk and/or complicated pregnancies.
Maternity Center Nursing Opportunities
The nursing staff in the Maternity Center is a highly competent and skilled team with a focus on family. The skill mix includes LVNs, RNs, OB Techs, Unit Secretaries and a Supply Clerk. Staff work 12-hour shifts, with night shift differentials. Within the Maternity Center, nursing opportunities include
- Labor and delivery
- Couplet care
- Post-delivery and Cesarean section recovery
- Neonatal intensive care
Opportunities for Cross-Training
The work experience gained in the Maternity Center is desirable, stimulating and rewarding. The value of this experience is enhanced by the opportunity for cross-training among the various disciplines within the Maternity Center.
New employees are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to train in more than one of the Maternity Center's three primary services: labor & delivery, couplet care and the NICU. Expertise and experience in more than one area not only gives nurses a sense of personal satisfaction, but also enhances their professional standing.
Student Nurse Float Pool
The student nurse float pool provides valuable experience for those interested in working in a hospital setting while in nursing school. Applicants must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation. Student nurses may work in the med/surg areas, and if they have a particular interest (such as maternity nursing), they may orient and work as part of that team.
