Helping Children Reach Their Best Potential
Child development is a process of physical growth and learning. Nothing is more gratifying for patients than watching their baby grow and develop. Nothing concerns parents more than wondering if their child is developing "on time." The Play to Learn Center staff provide therapy to meet each child's specific needs and work with the family to help them understand what they can do to help their child at home. Services are available for children from birth through adolescence. By working directly with children and with their families, the Play to Learn Center helps children:
- Realize their highest level of communication thereby increasing their social, emotional, and academic skills.
- Develop the skills they need to play and interact at an age appropriate level.
- Become more independent through improved movement, communication, feeding, and social interaction.
- With the help of their families, deal with the complex issues they face.
To help our young patients reach these goals, the Play to Learn Center offers:
- Individual therapy and developmental play groups for a variety of ages
- A sensory integration program
- High-risk infant follow-up
- Patient and family education
- Infant Massage
- School assessments
- Day camp programs
- Pool therapy
- Equipment assessment
- Referral to other resources, when necessary.
Infant Massage
The Play to Learn Center offers Infant Massage classes to help parents learn to communicate love through touch. The series of five classes includes an infant massage handbook and teaches parents to:
- Deepen the bonds with their baby
- Help their baby to sleep longer and deeper
- Promote relaxation-for both baby and parents
- Decrease fussiness and symptoms of colic
- Promote their baby's healthy development, growth and well-being
- Enhance the ability to nurture and understand their baby's needs.
The one-hour group classes provide opportunity for mutual support from other parents and a certified infant massage instructor specializing in infant development.
Our Team of Professionals
Our services are provided by licensed, therapy professionals, specializing in pediatrics and neonatology, trained in the most up-to-date techniques and dedicated to serving children and their families. We identify each child's needs, develop a treatment plan, and provide education and training for families. Team members include:
- Occupational Therapist, who gauges each child's development and sensory motor skills, as well as visual-spatial awareness, fine motor skills and feeding abilities.
- Physical Therapist, a specialist in motor development who works with the muscles of the body to improve the child's ability to sit, crawl, stand up, walk and jump.
- Speech Therapist, who determines how a child is able to understand others and express himself or herself, as compared to other children of the same age group.
Arrangements can be made to provide a number of the Play to Learn Center's services in many languages including, but not limited to, Spanish and Armenian. Call the Center for further details.
