Breast Cancer Treatment

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer  is the most common type of cancer in women in the United States. Breast cancer develops when the cells in the breast change abnormally, forming tumors with uncontrolled growth. Glendale Adventist offers women the latest innovations breast cancer treatment, starting with advanced diagnosis technology.

All women and even men can get breast cancer - even those with no prior history of the disease. However, there are several risk factors that increase your chance of getting breast cancer.

Those factors include:

  • Age - Women over the age of 50
  • Gender - Women are 100 times more likely than men to get breast cancer
  • History of breast cancer - Including family history, personal history and genes
  • Hormonal changes - Usually due to late-age pregnancies, late-age menopause, or estrogen-replacement therapy
  • Race
  • Lack of exercise
  • Obesity
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Breastfeeding
  • High socioeconomic status

Screening  

Mammograms and MRI screenings - mammograms, and in certain cases an MRI, continue to be the best way to detect breast cancer early, especially for those with a familial or genetic predisposition to breast cancer.   

Treatment

Regular breast tumor boards are held bringing radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists together to discuss cases to ensure that the best possible course of care is always offered to our patients.
