Army of Pink Winner Revealed

GLENDALE, CA—The 2010 Army of Pink candidates along with cancer survivors and community supporters gathered at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center Cancer Center on Monday, Nov. 1 to celebrate the culmination of the October campaign. Army of Pink focused on educating and engaging the community to learn more about breast cancer prevention and treatment options.

“With nearly 110,000 votes cast from the community from October 1 through 26, there is no doubt that this campaign was an success,” said Morre Dean, President/CEO of Glendale Adventist Medical Center. “While we can only have one winner, all of our 2010 candidates are heroes to us.”

The 2010 Army of Pink candidates included:
· Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian
· Glendale Police Chief Ron DePompa
· Glendale Fire Chief Harold Scoggins
· Glendale Community College Board President Tony Tartaglia
· Healthline Host Gregory Zarian
· Former Glendale Mayor Larry Zarian
· Glendale Adventist Cancer Center Medical Director, Dr. Boris Bagdasarian
· Laura Friedman, Glendale City Council member was the 2010 honorary chair (captain) of the Army campaign

“Dr. Bagdasarian, the winner of this year’s Army of Pink campaign, is an amazing physician and an integral part of our community,” said Dean. Dean noted that the hospital received dozens of notes from the people who voted in the campaign thanking all of the candidates for what they do. Dean continued, “Glendale Adventist is truly grateful to all seven amazing candidates.”

One of the notes of support from the community read, “Dr. Bagdasarian, I am only 9 years old, and I want to be a cancer doctor like you when I grow up, so I can help people and save their lives like you are. Thank you for being such a good role model for us....”

Dean added that he would like to thank the Glendale community for supporting efforts from Glendale Adventist Medical Center to help educate people about cancer prevention and local treatment options.

As the 2010 Army of Pink winner, Dr. Bagdasarian will have the lobby of the Glendale Adventist Cancer Center named after him for the next year. Additionally, GAMC made a $1 donation for the first 10,000 votes to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Glendale.
