The American College of Radiology (ACR) recently designated the GAMC Women's Imaging Center as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence for their "...dedication to improving women's health by participating in rigorous quality assurance programs" according to the ACR.
As the ACR gives this distinction to certain programs, community members now have a chance to see those centers that have met and exceeded quality and safety standards. According to the ACR, "...your center provides these essential services to your community at the highest standards of the radiology profession."
At GAMC, this accreditation commends not only the diagnostic imaging personnel as well qualified and highly skilled in their field, but it also lauds the use of the latest technology and procedures in the treatment of patients. "GAMC has always followed the ACR guidelines," states Clayton Lau, director of radiology at GAMC, "ACR started to present this Breast Image Center of Excellence designation only since October 2007. We are proud to be part of the front-runners to receive this award."
Currently, Glendale Adventist has the only program in the Glendale and Burbank area to receive this designation and is one of only 10 hospitals and breast centers in the state of California to be accredited as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
The ACR accredits many different types of tests and equipment within the scope of diagnostic imaging. To qualify as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, programs must have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound.
