WHAT: The purpose of this gathering is to stimulate a conversation about how organizations/companies can collaboratively focus on the triple aim (clinical quality, service quality, efficiency/value) for the greater Glendale and Foothill communities. As a starting point for this discussion, Glendale Adventist Medical Center’s electronic medical record partner, Cerner, developed the simulation and will be facilitating the event on April 22. The hope is that this exercise will draw attention on the health needs of the community, ways on improving those needs, ways on reducing healthcare costs and encouraging healthier lifestyles in the entire population, including increased physical activity, better nutrition, avoidance of behavioral risks and wider use of preventative care.
The exercise itself consists of a computer simulation around a fictitious community called "Healthy Hills." Teams gather around tables with computers and are given a set of circumstances (prevalence of diseases, demographics, budgets, etc.) and given choices to make about how best to serve our community. Each team consists of people assigned to one of three professional disciplines: physician clinic, employer and hospital. The fun part is that everyone takes roles that they are not familiar with on a day-to-day basis. Each team competes over the course of several rounds for the best outcomes in the triple aim. Of course, in the end, the teams are scored and someone wins!
WHO: Leaders from the Glendale Healthier Community Coalition member organizations, civic leaders, healthcare professionals, employers, and other community leadership will be present. Many community leaders, such as Christine Powers (City Program Supervisor), Debbie Walsh (CEO, VHH), Harold Scoggins (Fire Chief), Councilmember Laura Friedman, Frank Alvarez, MD (Area Health Officer, L.A. County Department of Public Health) have confirmed their attendance.
