GLENDALE ADVENTIST MEDICAL CENTER TO OFFER PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING AND LECTURE ON SEPTEMBER 8
Fighting prostate cancer begins with an annual screening
GLENDALE, CA - Men 50 and older are encouraged to join Glendale Adventist Medical Center in the fight against prostate cancer by taking time out of their day on Thursday, September 8 to listen to a free lecture (6PM - 7PM) at the hospital about Prostate Cancer Awareness and Treatment Options. The men are also encouraged to schedule a low-cost prostate cancer screening offered conveniently before and after the free lecture. Available times for the screenings at the hospital (1509 Wilson Terrace, Glendale) are on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5 to 6PM or 7 to 8:30PM.
The screening consists of digital rectal exam and a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test. PSA tests are $10. Glendale Adventist Medical Center physicians and physician residents will provide the screenings.
Physicians presentations will include: Dr. Ben Shenassa who will give an introduction to diagnosing and treating prostate cancer and Dr. Kamyar Ebrahimi who will speak about understanding prostate treatment options.
An estimated 240,890 new prostate cancer cases will occur in the United States during 2011. In most cases, there are no symptoms associated with early prostate cancer. It remains the second leading cause of cancer related mortality among men. Many men don't know they have prostate cancer because it can occur and spread without any symptoms. However, The survival rate for prostate cancer is quite high, especially when diagnosed early.
