H1N1 & Vaccines

Season 2 Episode 9 invites the Director of Infection Prevention from Glendale Adventist onto the Healthline set to talk about the nature of the flu and how the hospital helps to prevent the spread of flu and how they treat patients with the flu. A representative of the LA County Department of Public Health also joins the show to talk about the process of creating a flu vaccine each year.

Season 1 Episode 6 brings on Dr. Dawn Terashita of the LA County Department of Public Health to answer some of the basics about the flu. Some of the questions she responds to include:

  • What is the difference between the seasonal flu and the H1N1 flu?
  • What does it mean when they call H1N1 a pandemic?
  • Who is most affected by the flu and how does it travel across species?

Dr. Dennis DeLeon, Vice President of Medical Staff at Glendale Adventist and Lynn Campbell, Vice President of Clinical Services at Glendale Adventist also join the show to talk about how a hospital deals with the flu season and how they are prepared in case of an outbreak.
