PGY-2 Residents, 2008-2009

Dr. Robert S. Berberian grew up in Los Angeles and volunteered at Glendale Adventist Medical Center during high school, then began working in the ED while pursuing his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received his bachelor's degree in Physiological Science with an honors thesis. He then completed a research fellowship in neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine prior to receiving his medical degree form Western University of Health Sciences. After almost nine years of volunteering and working at Glendale Adventist, he returns as a physician to serve his community. Dr. Berberian is also involved in several different ventures including real estate, finance and investment, advancements in skin care, music and entertainment.

Dr. Thang Cao is a graduate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, UMDNJ. He grew up in Vietnam, then immigrated to the US and completed his undergraduate degree at UCSD in pharmacological chemistry. Besides medicine, he also enjoys Chinese chess, reading, jogging and playing badminton.

 

 

Dr. Marc Debay was born in Belgium and spent his early childhood in Africa. He graduated from the medical school of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and began work in humanitarian assistance with Doctors Without Borders in Africa, which led him to a fork in the road to international public health. He earned an MPH and PhD in public health from Johns Hopkins University while continuing to work on international assignments with a variety of international, governmental, private and non-profit organizations. His work has taken him to over 30 countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and has encompassed maternal and child health, reproductive health and family planning, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious disease programs. Dr Debay decided to expand his clinical knowledge and skills to provide both clinical and public health services to disadvantaged populations worldwide. He lives in Pasadena and enjoys exploring new territory and cultures, reading, writing, fitness, yoga and meditation. He is always learning new perspectives from his children, who are fascinating, talented young adults. He and his wife share a worldview and commitment to service.

Dr. Yen Phi Le graduated from American University of Caribbean, School of Medicine. She was born in Vietnam, immigrated to the United States in 1980 and grew up in San Jose, California. She started her undergraduate work at University of California, Davis for pre-medical study and continued her medical study to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science, Physician Assistant Program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles, California. She is a licensed physician assistant in the state of California and has more than six years experience in correctional medicine providing health care for inmates at both federal and state levels. She enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, traveling, meeting new people, gardening, reading and trying any sport at least once.

Dr. Julie Namm graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and completed her degree in cellular/molecular biology at the University of Michigan. Before medical school, she spent a year teaching English in Seoul, Korea. She has participated in medical missions in Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Dominican Republic and Nigeria, and enjoys exploring new people and places. For fun, she likes to play sports, especially basketball, volleyball, softball and table tennis. Outside the hospital, she can be found at the gym, beach, or mountains doing something active. She loves to eat and becomes very attached to people who will cook for her.

Dr. Reena Patel is a graduate of St. George's University, School of Medicine. She was raised in Southern California and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from UCLA in 2002. Throughout her education, she has had the privilege to participate in many community outreach programs such as a medical camp, aiding medical professionals of various specialties in providing free medical services to the community, as well as volunteering at various hospitals and fund raisers. She knows the importance of service and as a family physician she hopes to change this world by providing the best possible care to her patients. As a physician, Dr. Patel advocates preventative medicine through educating patients on living a healthier lifestyle that may save their lives. Outside of medicine, she enjoys reading, theatre, being outdoors, as well as spending time with her family and friends. She also loves to learn about different cultures, meet knew people, and international travel.

Dr. Kristine Tatosyan is a graduate of Loma Linda School of Medicine. She was born in Soviet Armenia and came to the United States at the age of 14 with her family. She graduated from UCLA in 1998 with degrees in Russian Literature and Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology and decided to pursue medicine. In the past, Dr. Tatosyan worked as a substitute teacher and a background artist. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, hiking, church, running, reading, playing/writing music and occasionally attempting to paint faces, on canvases, that is.

 

Dr. Sarah Vaughn graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Although she was raised in Trinidad, CO she longed to see the world and found herself in New York attending the University of Rochester to attain a degree in biology. Prior to medical school she participated in research at the Denver VA Medical Center and worked at a pathology lab in Colorado while acquiring a basic emergency medical technician certification. Throughout her education she has been active in many volunteer organizations and fundraising entities such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She will serve time with the United States Air Force after completing residency training and plans to incorporate medical experiences in international and rural communities into her career. Her favorite past-times outside of medicine include world travel, hiking, camping, watching movies, attending theater productions and baking.
